Nieuwsbrief Atelier de Hoogzit

En zo zwaaiden deze zomer op 22 en 23 augustus tijdens de Open Atelier Route Ede een flink aantal ateliers en locaties de deuren open voor enthousiast kunstminnend publiek… Wat was het een heerlijk weekend. Nogmaals petje af en alle lof voor de organisatie die dit kleurrijke feest, onderdeel van de Edese Heideweek, mogelijk gemaakt heeft!

Ook Atelier de Hoogzit werd door een flink aantal bezoekers aangedaan. Er waren fijne gesprekken, mooie ontmoetingen, we mochten positieve reacties in ontvangst nemen en ook nog uitkijken naar komende gasten in de vorm van nieuwe cursisten en mensen die iets willen laten schilderen.

De krant had onze expositie als solopresentatie aangemerkt, maar niets was minder waar, want de Hoogzit herbergde 30 exposanten, allen schilders die eens of hedentendage verbonden zijn met dit atelier.

Miranda Freriks blies op haar jachthoorn de dagen open, een geluid dat de Hoogzit zo past en echtpaar Regter zong het slotakkoord op zondagavond, toen zij ons verrasten met een lied in het Mongools. De melancholieke melodie is me nog lang bij gebleven.

Het echtpaar had mij het schilderij geleend dat ik van hun zeer antieke T-Ford (1915) maakte om te exposeren. Met dit krasse karretje zijn zij de hele wereld over getrokken om geld in te zamelen voor SOS kinderdorpen en projecten op te zetten die zij nu nog ondersteunen. Zo konden mensen tijdens het weekend een donatie voor o.a. dit goede doel doen, hun naam achterlaten en kans maken op het winnen van een schilderij.

Kerstkaarten voor de Manege Zonder Drempels waren ook vers van de pers aan te schaffen.

Het Melkmeisje dat mijn moeder schilderde, een erfstuk van mijn nicht, staat nog te koop voor een prachtig project in Afrika waar Thobias in centraal staat. Deze arts in opleiding wordt geholpen door de Nederlandse Monique en haar gezin, om een leefbare plek te creëren voor de kinderen die Thobias onder zijn vleugels heeft genomen.

Last but not least, Els verkocht haar schattig ezeltje in olieverf voor Brooks Hospital for Animals.

Wat verder voortvloeide uit het begin van deze heideweek en de daaropvolgende Oud Lunterse Dag is teveel om hier nu te melden, ik kan alleen maar zeggen, wordt vervolgd en HARTELIJK DANK als u bezoeker was van de Atelier route! Is het niet gelukt, van harte welkom volgend jaar, we richten onze focus alweer op dit paarse festijn.

And so, on August 22 and 23—during the Ede Open Studio Route—a great many studios and locations threw open their doors to an enthusiastic, art-loving public... What a wonderful weekend it was. Hats off and full praise to the organizers who made this colorful celebration—part of the Ede 'Heideweek' festival—possible!

Atelier de Hoogzit also welcomed a good number of visitors. There were delightful conversations and lovely encounters; we received positive feedback and can look forward to future guests, including new students and people interested in commissioning a painting.

The local newspaper had described our exhibition as a solo show, but that was far from the truth; in fact, De Hoogzit hosted 30 exhibitors—all painters who are, or have been, connected to the studio.

Miranda Freriks opened the days by playing her hunting horn—a sound that suits De Hoogzit perfectly—while the Regter couple provided the closing note on Sunday evening, surprising us with a song in Mongolian. The melancholic melody stayed with me long after. The couple had lent me the painting I created of their vintage Model T Ford (1915) for the exhibition. They had driven this sturdy little car all over the world to raise funds for SOS Children's Villages and to launch projects they still support today. Throughout the weekend, visitors could make a donation to this charity (among others), leave their details, and stand a chance of winning a painting. Fresh-off-the-press Christmas cards for *Manege Zonder Drempels* (Riding School Without Barriers) were available for purchase, and the painting of *The Milkmaid*—created by my mother and an heirloom belonging to my cousin—remains for sale to benefit a wonderful project in Africa centered on Thobias. This doctor-in-training is being assisted by Monique, a Dutch woman, and her family in their efforts to create a livable environment for the children Thobias has taken under his wing.

Last but not least, Els sold her charming oil painting of a donkey to benefit the Brooks Hospital for Animals.

There is too much to recount here regarding everything else that stemmed from the start of this 'Heath Week' and the subsequent *Oud Lunterse Dag* (Old Lunteren Day); suffice it to say: to be continued. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited the Studio Trail! If you couldn't make it this time, you are most welcome to join us next year; we are already setting our sights on this purple-hued celebration.
