    Winds of change

In broederschap bovendien.

    Of muziek. Dat altijd liever dan een werkelijk dodelijk wapen. Met de hoop dat de winds of change magic moments mogen brengen, en zoals Scorpions zo veel belovend zingen;

“Like a stormwind that will ring the freedom bell
    For peace of mind
    Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say”

    Winds of change
A beautiful song by Scorpions. Sung at a time when oppression was crumbled and a new time of freedom and an open future lay like a wide playing field for those who had had to live behind a wall for a long time. In brotherhood, moreover.
The winds are blowing again. There are no more breezes, but occasionally it gets quite stormy. On a global level, but also personally, we can hear this wind of change well in this time of turbulence.
For example, it hurt me a lot to hear that Henk Ruseler, better known as the forest ranger of the Hoge Veluwe, passed away. For years, it has been the face of the park that has awakened or encouraged the beauty and great importance of nature in many (young) people.
He was the one who, when I introduced him to the Lepelkoenen (a small people with similar inspiration), warmly invited these creatures to the Hoge Veluwe. The treasure hunt that can be followed there is still a reminder of it.
I previously dedicated a blog to him and it showed how ill he was. However, in the last contact I had with him, he indicated that things were going a bit better. Unfortunately, he encountered another wind of change…
The neighborhood I live in, the neighbors I have, we have known each other for more than fifty years. Then you become a bit like family. All nice people, willing to help each other. The boy next door, who was born when I was a child, moved behind his parents' house. Musician, car mechanic. I look out at his garage, which was always buzzing with music and engine whirring.
Admittedly, it was sometimes a bit much in the middle of the night, but it was still a nice corner with a lot of life.
After the sudden death of his father, of course also part of our beloved Heuvelsepad family, he could no longer find his way. This enormous wind of change has now made him decide to leave with his girlfriend. I will miss them. It gets quiet there. Windless, but also different. And I sincerely hope that the wind takes them home, searching as they are.
And so we find ourselves holding up in worldly and personal circumstances while the only thing that doesn't change is change itself. What is also unchangeable is the One upon which we may direct our course.

Thus. back on the storm hat and continue with courage and confidence. Armed with pen and brush.
    Or music. Always preferable to a truly deadly weapon. With the hope that the winds of change may bring magical moments, and like Scorpions sing so promisingly;
“Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell
    For peace of mind
    Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say”

  • Terug naar Amsterdam

    17 januari 2024

    The Major is back home

How wonderfully beautiful things can be... In a previous letter you read that a Pop Up Shop was created here in Ede around Christmas, filled with art. At least 25% of sales were donated to the Salvation Army.

We have already jumped into the new year and I can report that this pilot has been a success and that the undersigned, as an exhibitor, has enjoyed everything special it brought with it.

Since I was able to make a portrait of Major Bosshardt available, Cor Lourens and Daan Overeem, the organizers of the store, decided to sell this appropriate subject by auction.

Towards the last Saturday, the proceeds increased until I received a message that the final bid had been placed with a very special story and destination.

The Salvationist with the soup bicycle who was present on the last day of the exhibition could tell us that he had informed a couple, also Salvationists in Amsterdam, of the existence of a portrait of Major Bosshardt. What turned out? The life of this couple, Henny and Koos Tinga, was very closely intertwined with that of the Major. They even shared a house with each other and the Tinga children had a beloved additional family member in Major Bosshardt.

Koos received his brother's portrait. And so it was that Henny and Koos came to pick up the portrait here in Ede that first Thursday afternoon of the new year and after a special get-together and hearing heart-warming but also heartbreaking stories from the less fortunate in our country, these special people took “Majoor” back home to Amsterdam.

She is with people who knew her intimately and loved her. She's back home. I couldn't have thought of a better destination and I am very grateful to the organizers for the invitation to participate in the Pop Up Shop, the alertness of the man with the soup bike. And we also had the opportunity to become more acquainted with the great work that the Salvationists do. If anyone brings light to the dark days of others, it is them. In the name of…

    A salute to them!

  • De Majoor op Missie

    22 november 2023

Recently Cor Lourens, a fantastic fine painter from Ede, invited me to participate in an exhibition in Ede Center. This is a Pop Up shop where works of art will be sold and where part of the proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army. Together with Daan Overeem, this active artist came up with this plan and today, November 22, the entire collection is being collected and carefully placed on the Vendelstraat in the center of Ede. This in a vacant corner building on the liberation square. I was very honored to be able to participate, especially since my mother's work can also be part of the place that I can decorate with paintings. I can already reveal it now, because this newsletter will only go out when the unveiling has taken place. Some years ago I painted Major Bosshardt. For a long time I wanted to do something with the painting that would benefit the Salvation Army. And see! The opportunity just falls from heaven. Since the portrait is appropriate for the purpose, it will receive more attention, be unveiled and hopefully be auctioned for a nice sum. She has given her whole life to the beautiful salvation army, but even now, in the form of a portrait, the highly esteemed Major is going on a mission again!

For information about this pop up shop see: my exhibitions. Five Saturdays in a row until December 23. Welcome!

  • Zeven ezeltjes en een vlinder

    15 november 2023

As promised in this short newsletter, an image of the result of the workshop that we celebrated together last Saturday for Brooks Hospital for Animals. An institution where angels work in the form of veterinarians. It was a joy to be together, although there were occasional sighs. Donkeys can be really stubborn... even when you want to show them off. That is why one painter wisely chose a colorful butterfly.

  • Drama

    1 november 2023

    Drama

In war and peace.

Brooks Hospital for Animals is zo’n organisatie.

    Drama

There is an incredible amount of drama in the world right now. Drama, it is a word that comes from the art world. After all, it was originally a play or dance, a book or a film in which a loved one usually dies followed by a personal development of the people around the one leaving. In any case, it demands the attention of the spectator in a compelling way.

As there is an overwhelming amount of drama on display on the world stage at this time, our attention is drawn to many places. But also derived from places where the need is also great and attention and help are now in danger of coming to a standstill. With every bombing and every outbreak of violence, the numbers of injured and killed people are mentioned. My attention and questions always go to the animals in their care. If they are still alive, how do they continue? Made dependent on our care. That calls for a great responsibility.

In the rubble where people search and help each other, I always look with concern to see if there is a dog, cat, horse or other animal somewhere. Losing your family is the greatest tragedy. But animals can be an important family member that will also be terribly missed. Seen from a human perspective. But what is going on in their minds? They can't understand what has blown their world apart, can they?

Fortunately, there are agencies that specialize in caring for these helpless souls. In war and peace.

Brooks Hospital for Animals is such an organization. Coming forth from the care for war horses, for many years she has been committed to helping animals that are not only dependent on their owners, but also owners who are dependent on their animals. Horsepower, that is. Animals that give their life and strength for the existence of people who have nothing else to do their work and get their goods to their destination. In their ignorance and own poverty, they often draw too much power from the horse or donkey that is their only possession. Brooks helps the animals to stay on their feet, to do their work fed and refreshed and thus to lead a better life instead of suffering and to make their owners aware that animals also have the right to live and are also of great value. Let us never forget that last point, in any drama.

  • "Bewapend"

    11 oktober 2023

    Armed with brush

The past two weeks have once again been all about magic at the Hoogzit studio. I can report that I have been in contact again with Mildred Elfenbein, the representative of the Little People, on the Hoge Veluwe. The search for the Lepelkoenen there will be enriched with finds of the Saint Hubertus Deer.

In addition, I have almost finished the first illustration for Greetje's book full of magic. Beautiful work to do, considering there is a real world behind the story in the Hakvoort house and stables.

This while the world is on fire elsewhere, which does affect me. And so I work on beautiful things. As a counterpart to all those atrocities that people do to each other and our fellow creatures. It's too big to comprehend. But it gives me a feeling to create even more beautiful and good things. Not out of desperation. But from an awareness that there is something that stands above everything. No matter how deep we go, or perhaps the deeper, the higher and more rebellious that power. The clearer the way to the heights where all noise, rumor and misery cease. Where silence reigns in infinite light and intact trust. The dimension from which we look down on a swirling mass that has lost its way. Not from an arrogant height, but from being silent with compassion and attention. Waiting for every soul to come to its senses. An utopia? Hope lost, everything lost.

Until then, it seems to me that it will make sense to continue to provide true inspiration in art and fortunately, we are not alone. Brothers and sisters artists, continue to send beauty and truth into the world to heal the ugliness, which is unfortunately not foreign to us humans!

  • Louter Licht Pure Light

    20 september 2023

    Louter Licht

There is a Land of pure Light... we used to sing this at school. Somewhere I know that this is reality. Unless I was so generously bathed in love by my parents and grandparents in my youth that I refer to this time. But even then, what would be the difference?

A year ago I adopted the pseudonym PKArt Heavencollector on Instagram. PK obviously stands for horsepower, in flesh and blood or in beautiful vintage cars.

But PK also stands for Perfect Key. Not in the sense of a key with an accompanying lock, but a key like the one from music. A key that indicates the correct tone and to which you can tune your instrument to sound pure.

When we open ourselves to inspiration, we can only find access to it by attuning ourselves to that pure tone. If we resonate with it, holy holy, how wonderfully unison it sounds and you rise above yourself. You feel the contact with the same vibration vibrating through your entire being and the inspiration can be captured, to be released again in earthly material. Can I call this art?

I promised to report developments here regarding the book that is taking shape. The book by Greetje Hakvoort and her family and animals, which tells about a Magical World. We are now ready to create the illustrations. Wonderful work. And I cannot help but believe that this Magical World is an extention of that Land of pure Light.

The moment I opened a channel as the Heavencollector, Greetje sent me a message asking if I wanted to illustrate her story. It fits so wonderfully into that collection of pieces of heaven that can be found on earth. The magic that, if we have an eye for it and trust in it, can really be found around us. Despite the fact that chaos, disasters, wars, or whatever else bothers us, wants to sow fear. Then let us sow beauty and reap heavenly ears in the things we can make with and for each other in lasting inspiration released.

Will it not be that, as the song concludes, even then the narrow sea of death cannot separate us from that blessed land?

  • Paarse magie Purple Magic

    6 september 2023

Calluna I. In een later jaar volgde Prinses Erica.

    Mandy

    Dearest Bless & Bon

Purple is the color of magic…

Is that why a flowering heathland appeals to so many people? And does it really bring something magical?

In our village of Ede at the time, we go back to 1935, the plan was conceived to celebrate the flowering of the heather. A real Heather Queen was crowned for the event. Calluna I. Princess Erica followed in a later year. The festive event was brought to life to give the crisis years some color and brightness. And that worked.

Given our time in which it hasn't all been joy and freedom in recent years, it has fortunately been possible to fully celebrate the Heideweek again this year. The villages that belong to the municipality of Ede each have their own day.

Those who have 't Lunters blood flowing through their veins, like the undersigned, have the Oud Lunterse Dag as their favorite. A colorful procession of nostalgia called the Reutemeteut passes through the village. In the village street, the cosiness and togetherness are celebrated with a huge fair under which old crafts are displayed, although the "inner mins" is also amply supplied with tasty food.

My mother used to fill the stall in front of her birthplace with her club members; the craft of artists. I have taken over this beautiful tradition for two years now. The first time was difficult, the loss remains of course, but the warm bath of Lunteren has warmly welcomed this new generation and I am happy to contribute with some drawing here and there for the big party. Thanks again to the market masters!

And so the participation as painters of this time made for Tini and Wim; two club members of my mother, Sylvia one of my club members and me to a party.

But not only this day, on which we were allowed to show our own color and bright to the public, my heather week colored magically beautifully. This year the Edese Atelier Route became a fact. How wonderful to meet colleagues in art and admire their ideas and translation of beauty and brilliant inspirations. I enjoyed the super fine works of Cor Lourens

( www.corlourens.nl ) and the delightful characters of Ria Buitenhuis (see Edese Atelierroute Ria Buitenhuis).

There was much more to see, but I had to choose to save time for the preparations for Lunteren. However, these two visits magically colored my day. Not just purple, but as if painted from a rich palette.

Is it a coincidence that I read this morning that Art is as necessary for a healthy life as sleep, nutrition and exercise? I'm going to make another dose and enjoy one.

    With colorful regards,

    Mandy

  • Elven, kabouters en...

    Elven, kabouters en….

Mildred Elfenbein.

Mildred Elfenbein is hun spreekbuis.

    Elves, gnomes and….

Mildred Elfenbein. A few years ago I met her on the Hoge Veluwe. A wondrous person who is in close contact with the Little People. In this case the Kleine Volk der Lepelkoenen.

When my mother and I were looking for inspiration for an exhibition at Galerie Zuid in Harskamp, I met de Lepelkoen through the Gelderse hare. It was a wonderful journey to this phenomenon that is little known.

De Lepelkoen has settled in Gelderland for many years and has always remained underground until a few years ago. With good reason. Down-to-earth Dutch people who dismiss the fairy folk and relatives from nonsense to madness are not the most suitable large people to expose yourself to as a small spirit of nature.

However, now that nature is crying out for the much-needed attention, not to succumb to man's unbridled greed and land grab, the Veluwe Lepelkoen has also come above ground. In Park de Hoge Veluwe.

Mildred Elfenbein is their mouthpiece, translating and mediating between these little conservationists of Nature and those they love to reach. In the coming period there will be more to read about the activities of the Lepelkoenen and their message. For now it will remain in the mysteries that ask for respect and patience. To be continued…

  • Onbevattelijk Incomprehensible

    Onbevattelijk

    Ik citeer een regel van de grote meester Rien Poortvliet uit het boek de Ark van Noach;

    Incomprehensible

Sometimes it's all too big and grand to comprehend. Misery that is now presenting itself at all levels in the world and effortlessly making its way to us through the media. But also good and beautiful things.

This way I can become exuberantly happy when others are equally enthusiastic about creating special art forms.

Or completely happily lost at the sight of a co-creation that is so wonderfully put together and colored that it really exceeds your understanding.

    I quote a line from the great master Rien Poortvliet from the book Noah's Ark;
“How did the good Lord make it all excist…”

With him, I cannot help but believe that the Great Maker thoroughly enjoyed and still enjoys bringing such wonderful creatures into existence.
